Professional Background

If I had to pick one of my strengths that propels me to the top of any stack of resumes it would be “adaptability.” I am intelligent and flexible enough to be able to shift paradigms and tackle disparate tasks in short order effectively, including self-educating in whatever subjects are necessary. In fact, the vast majority of my software engineering education has been at my own hands, through books, online resources and projects professional and hobby alike. I am, by nature, a tenacious problem solver.

I began my professional software development career when I enlisted in the US Air Force in the spring of 2000. Upon reaching my first duty station as a fresh graduate of the wholly inadequate technical training they provide, I was given a book on Java and told to “learn,” and learn I did. During my six-year enlistment in the Air Force, I helped design and develop the Air Force’s corporate portal and several critical logistics management tools still in use by the Air Force today. After leaving the Air Force, I wrote code freelance for a short while and tried my hand at several other types of work before coming to Hattiesburg to join the team at BearingPoint. Today I am a project lead and senior developer on the .Net team at Deloitte Consulting here in Hattiesburg.

Continued education has been one of my goals since joining the Air Force at age 20, and I have finally resumed my work on an undergraduate degree this year at William Carey University, earning straight ‘A’s in my classes and the accolades of my professors. I am currently classed as a junior and should graduate sometime next year if all goes as planned. Beyond this, I am constantly reading and updating my knowledge and skills. I have recently taught myself and become proficient in CSS and Javascript as it relates to producing bleeding-edge web application design, as well as VB.Net on a recent project. Again, my ability to rapidly adapt and self-educate makes me the perfect candidate for positions where my duties are varied and require multidisciplinary focus.

Work History

March 2009 – Present
Deloitte Consulting LLP
Project Lead & Senior Application Developer
Hattiesburg, MS

In March of 2009, the public sector portion of BearingPoint was acquired by Deloitte and most of the development team at Hattiesburg were transferred at that time. Since moving to Deloitte, I have continued working in a project lead and senior developer capacity. My most recent project is a large-scale acquisitions process management application for the US Air Force called EITDR. I have become the resident user interface design and development expert for the project in the last several months, having engineered a complete re-skin of their entire presentation layer through primarily the use of CSS and Javascript. In that effort, I have been involved from initial requirements clarification stages all the way through design and development to testing and deployment. Due to the scale and compartmental nature of the project, we have multiple leads on the project, guiding multiple functional areas of development through the entire software development lifecycle from concept to delivery.

March 2008 – March 2009
BearingPoint Management & Technology Consulting
Lead Application Developer
Hattiesburg, MS

Since starting with BearingPoint, I have become one of the recognized go-to guys for .Net technologies. Projects include maintenance on a SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) compliance implementation built on Sharepoint 2003, Montana’s Department of Motor Vehicles Title and Registration application, which was a WinForms MDI app built on .Net 2.0. Followed this project by leading an internal project to build an application on BEA AquaLogic’s Business Process Management engine to interface with and provide reporting and coordination services for the Department of Homeland Security’s intrusion tracking systems. Extended and improved the reporting services capabilities of a (ASP.Net 3.5) US Navy personnel system using a 3rd party reporting tool called LogiXML. All of these projects have been in a project lead capacity, which means I am responsible for planning, architecture, task assignment and assurance, as well as reports to clients and my management on progress. My other responsibilities include mentoring junior developers, including interns, teaching .Net to new hires and senior developers alike, troubleshooting where necessary center-wide, handling interviews for junior and senior developer candidates and other managerial responsibilities where delegated.

October 2007 – February 2008
Limbo Game Studios
Video Game Developer
Montgomery, AL

I signed on as one of three founding members of the new company and got to work on the initial project, a Massively Multiplayer Online game, immediately. I was responsible for the entirety of the network layer, server architecture (clustering, load-balancing, etc) and UI framework of the client for this project. I was able to accomplish the network layer and server architecture in less than 2 months working completely solo. The primary tools used were C#, .Net and Microsoft’s managed game development library, XNA. Later in development we decided to move away from using XNA to using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) to accomplish the UI layer and were able to increase productivity on the client’s UI dramatically.

August 2006 – October 2007
Self-Employed
Freelance Work, Self-Education
Montgomery, AL

Performed work on various sites as a freelancer, to include ASP.Net UI design and artwork and continued my self-education as always, digging into .Net and in particular the C# language. Studied the psychology of UI design, usability analysis and site navigation.

July 2006 – August 2006
Unisys, Inc.
Oracle Database Administrator

I was hired by Unisys, Inc. as an Oracle DBA. The job required a Top Secret clearance with SSBI compartmented access. The clearance investigation is ongoing and Unisys has assured me that they will contact me if the clearance is granted. Prior to being hired at this position, I had no experience as a DBA. They were, and remain to this day, faithful that I could handle any duty assigned.

April 2006 – July 2006
Self-Employed
Freelance Web Applications Developer and Artist
Montgomery, AL

Completed work on several projects, including www.pooltown.net and several other sites whose addresses will be available by request. As an independent contractor I had to assume all necessary roles from project manager to programmer and graphic artist, which required me to learn how to manage my time efficiently. During this period I began to really educate myself on .Net and transition from being primarily a Java/J2EE developer to C# and ASP.Net.

April 2000 – April 2006
US Air Force
Web Applications Developer
Montgomery, AL

For six years I educated myself through the use of textbooks borrowed from the office library or by spending hours (or hundreds of dollars) in bookstores absorbing as much knowledge as I could. I worked on projects like the Air Force Portal (www.my.af.mil) and the Logistics Information Network (both unavailable outside military network). My skills were recognized on several occasions, but none so visibly as when I was moved, as my final assignment in the Air Force, to the Special Projects Team in our organization, which was an in-house consulting team that helped Java/J2EE projects with difficult designs and getting back on track when behind schedule or over-budget.
